ASTD LI 2009  Presidents Message

2009 will bring many challenges and changes to us all.  The American Society of Training and Development Long Island continues its commitment to provide our members with timely and relevant programs, as well as a supportive and collegial environment to help you navigate these uncertain waters.

Our Winter/Spring Program line up is a great one. We started in January with a targeted and timely presentation “Showcasing Your Value”- conducting a targeted needs assessment, by Joel Lintchiz, noted author and sales trainer. If you missed Joel speak you can sign up for a copy of his presentation at our next meeting.

In February we are pleased to present David Kelly CPLP, VP of Learning and Development at Carver Savings. David will lead us through the ins and outs of earning the prestigious CPLP designation from ASTD National. The CPLP is a real differentiator when it comes to job search and placement and is highly respected in our field.

We will round out our spring offerings with presentations from Meloney Sallie Dusunumu of Just Born Candies on Measuring Training Effectiveness and in April, Bill Heather of Right Management will present   “Job Search Strategies for Uncertain Times”. Right Management Associates is the premier outplacement firm in our region. They have helped numerous individuals and organizations successfully manage their outplacement efforts.

In addition to quality programs and roundtable discussions we are working behind the scenes to upgrade and expand the capability of our website and provide more enhancements so that the website will indeed become an active resource for our membership. Job Postings, Resource Directory, Linked in Groups and a Book Discussion Group are just some of the ideas we are working on. We would love to hear your ideas and welcome your participation. Please call me at 631-754-2481 or any of our Board Members to learn more.

ASTD LI is the place to be for positive energy, new ideas, new contacts and staying on top of your own development.

Now is the time to get involved! We hope to see you all soon!

Sincerely,

Mary Speed-Perri, President ASTD LI www.astdli.org  February, 23rd, 2009
